PEA’s opened their Detroit office to bring their landscape architects closer to their clients in a space that elevates the brand of their design. As an auxiliary office located in a prime downtown location, budget was also a key concern.
The open office gives all employees views of the city and allows natural light to fill the space. Glass walls bring the light into the private offices and conference rooms. A central low wall along the corridor directs visitors, shields restrooms and office equipment, and gives privacy to the conference room.
Holding the wall down from the ceiling allowed the corridor to become part of the larger space. It’s peg board cladding lets light filter through and transforms it into a functional storage piece for hanging tools. Wood floors, cement light fixtures, stone, and concrete tile reflect materials used in the client’s work.
I enjoy projects like this where I develop a schematic design and oversee all aspects of the project through construction. This way I can ensure that the needs of the client and design intent are met while adjusting for any changes. The project worked out very well. The tenant moving into the floor below liked the space so much that they hired our firm to design their office as well.
