JB Cutting
JB Cutting is an advanced CNC millwork and 3d laminate component manufacturer located in metro-Detroit. The company’s existing front office couldn’t handle the staff capacity that was needed. Low T-shape concrete beams supporting the mezzanine above the office limit the ceiling height. The workshop located behind the office was a constant source of noise and dust.
To increase efficiency in space and workflow, the office was divided into an area for administration and a production support zone, doubling the office capacity to 14. Restrooms and auxiliary functions form a buffer the office from the noisy shop. A custom built workstation in the open office seats 8 employees. Sound absorbing materials, cantilevered screens, and bookshelves above give privacy to the space. The light, muted palette brightens the space and conceals dust from the shop. A central core wrapped in CNC milled cladding function as as a landmark for wayfinding and showcases the company’s fabrication capabilities.
Private offices for upper management are located in the front of the building furthest from the shop. The conference room is also strategically located in the front of the building, taking advantage of the limited available natural light. Light filters through the conference room’s frosted glass into the main office space.
The CAD operators and production manager occupy the production support zone. In the break room, production staff catch relief from the shop's noise. It also allows them to reconnect to the outside through one of the building’s few windows.
